Safe and fun streaming for kids

We might take profiles in streaming services for granted today but in 2019, the family oriented streaming services C More had some challenges around catering appropriate user experiences for the different family members.

Background

C More was a streaming service that offered something for everybody in the family, ranging from kids shows, family adventures, sports, drama, action, and thrillers.

Challenge

Without a way to identify who was watching what, content consumption was mixed up, potentially promoting Peppa Pig to daddy and exposing horror movies to the kids. 😱

Plan

Solution

We made profile switching and editing available from the navigation menu. On personal devices like phones, we let the profile choice be sticky between sessions.

On big screen devices, that we assumed were more likely to be shared, we had the app ask who’s watching every new session.

C More kids mode

We created themes and characters for the kids to choose from to make their experience more personal and fun. We also introduced a new character-centered way to discover content.

Settings screen for parental lock

Parents can set a passcode to limit kids profiles access.

The experience for kids became more fun, personal, and safe, and parents no longer had to worry about their kids accessing inappropriate content in C More.
